Announces special emphasis on developing IT infrastructure

The Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot today said the Centre has given special emphasis on developing IT infrastructure in the North-east to bridge the gap in digital divide and there would be no dearth of fund for the purpose.

Launching distribution of "Aadhaar" or unique identification number for the north eastern region through post offices at a function here, the minister said UID authority has assigned the job of giving 12 digit unique number to the people of the region to the department of post.

The minister also inaugurated the Nagaland State Data Centre for e-governance and asked various departments to provide services to the people through IT connectivity to ensure transparency, efficiency and speed in delivering mechanism. This centre has been set up at a cost of Rs 30.68 crore.

Later, the minister inaugurated the new building of the Regional Institute of e-Learning and IT at Merema near here.
