A Joint forum on Non Life Insurers in Kerala has urged the state government to create a Police website on road accidents.

Regional Manager of United India Insurance company and Forum Convenor, T K Haridasan, said that creation of a website and its update on a daily basis about motor vehicle accidents would enable victims to get compensation at the earliest.

This will also eliminate the chances of fradulent accident claims, Haridasan said in a press release here. The initial cost of creating the website, including the server cost, would be borne by the insurance companies.

General Insurance companies have a mechanism of compromise settlement which is a speedy one. But presently, insurance companies get the information about motor vehicle accidents when they get summons from Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) after one or two years of mishap. The insurance companies can download reqired documents from the website and thus ensure speedy compensation to the victims, he said.

Against the backdrop of increasing road accidents, representatives of both government owned and private sector general insurance companies in Kerala formed the 'Joint Forum' for addressing the issues being faced by nonlife insuraers in respect of management of Third Party claims. They have decided to meet once in three motnhs to discuss vehicle accident problems, the release said.

The Forum has also decided to take up with the issue with the DGP.
