Raj soon to introduce online process to issue driving licenses

The initiative, which is coupled with setting up of seven driving schools at divisional headquarters, is part of the broader framework on ensuring road safety

To ensure transparency, online process to issue driving licenses will soon be introduced in Rajasthan, a minister said.

Seven driving schools at divisional headquarters level will also be set up by March 2012 and drivers will be trained impart safe driving skills, state Transport Minister B K Sharma said a conference on road safety here.

The minister said such initiatives would help in reducing fatalities on the roads.

Conference covers various segments of road safety, including education and awareness, drivers' training and post accident victim management.

The participants suggested the state government to take more initiatives on road safety.

"Training of drivers is the foremost thing needed to be done to ensure road safety. Many of the road accidents happen due to lack of proper training. Not only beginners, but the government should take initiative to train every driver," Sanjeev Sankhla, a former national biker, said.

Representatives of 15 NGOs attended the conference.
