A report benchmarking the technology for implementation of ICT based financial inclusion (FI) across the country is expected to be out by June this year, a United Nation Development Programme(UNDP) executive said today.

B-school, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), UNDP and NABARD have joined hands to bring out this report based on series of discussions held with various FI stakeholders including nationalised banks, technology providers, and microfinance institutions.

"We will document whatever has been discussed with the stakeholders and bring out a study report, which serves as a comprehensive guide for whosoever wants to adopt technology on FI," Programme Officer UNDP Poverty Reduction Ratnesh said.

"The study report will be out by June this year. It shall be circulated to all the stakeholders like Ministry of Finance, RBI, IBA and others" he said.

"The idea is to draw a continuum and set of objective benchmarks against which any institution can make their own conclusions on implementation of ICT based FI," Ratnesh said.

"Report would also provide clarity on where we would be reaching by 2015 and what role the technology should play," he said.

There are close to 17-18 options on technology available today for the implementation of FI like mobile based banking, smart card or chip cards, internet banking.

A series of workshops have been organised by the IIM-A to take views of various stakeholders on ICT based FI, which have been funded by UNDP and NABARD.

The Rangarajan Committee in 2008 had showed that less than only 50 per cent of the people in country are banked.
