MoS says project has not been implemented any where in the country

GN Bureau | September 6, 2012

The crime and criminal tracking network & systems (CCTNS) project has received Rs. 419 crores till date in all the 28 states and 7 union territories of the country.

'The project is yet to be implemented (full fledged) across the country,' said Jitendra Singh, minister of state of home affairs in a written reply to Suresh Kalmadi, when he questioned him regarding the same in the Lok Sabha.

He further added, 'Project has not been implemented any where in the country.'

The project is under various heads, for example system integrator, project management, capacity building and networking.

Presently, pilot testing for core application software is going on at specific locations in the states of Assam, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh. However, till now no cities have been connected with CCTNS.

The aim of CCTNS is to create a comprehensive and integrated system to enhance policing at the ground level, i.e. at the level of the police stations. This will be achieved by adapting principles of e-Governance and by creating a nationwide network infrastructure for evolution of IT-enabled tracking system.
