Rs 9175 Cr for defence network

BSNL to build exclusive and dedicated OFC network

The cabinet committee on Infrastructure (CCI) has given financial approval of Rs. 9175.16 crore for an OFC network for defence services. This was stated by minister of communication and IT, Gurudas Kamat in a reply to a question by R. Dhruvanarayana in the Lok Sabha, yesterday.

Of the sanctioned amount Rs. 1077.16 crore is for Air Force network and Rs. 8098 crore for Army and Navy network.

The minister added that in the meeting held on 3rd December, 2009, the cabinet committee on Infrastructure (CCI) has approved setting up of an exclusive and dedicated OFC based communication network for defence services for release of spectrum by December, 2012.  

It was stated that government has taken services of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to build this exclusive and dedicated Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) network.
