Smart boards can work for classroom, distance and remote education system

Canadian firm Smart Technologies on Wednesday launched full and multi-touch screen interactive white boards (IWBs) in India.

"This is for the first time we are launching a white board in India which is full touch screen. Other companies offer touch operation in a limited area on the screen," Sanjiv Pande, managing director, India and South Asia, Smart Technologies said.

Smart launched its 400, 600 and 800 series SMART Board interactive whiteboard line in India. "These boards can work for classroom, distance and remote education system. We believe that these end-to-end education solutions will further strengthen our commitment to India," he added.

Pande said that these white boards can be used for interaction with students and their mobile phones can be configured with these boards to get their response on the questions asked by a teacher on the digital boards. "Apart from this, we have Smart exchange, which offers content for 51,000 lessons that are taught in schools," he said.

"The solutions encourage improved student outcomes such as increased student engagement, learner motivation and knowledge retention," Saptarshi Basu, Senior Product Manager, Smart Technologies said.

Basu added that these white boards support integration of Microsoft, Macintosh and Open source softwares. Smart, which has been doing business in India through distributors since 2003-04, this year opened its wholly-owned subsidiary in the country.

Pande said that till date Smart has installed around 8000 interactive boards in India and 2 million globally. He added that the company has appointed HCL Infosystems as its distributor in the country and there are total 250 channel partners in India that are working with Smart Technologies.
