Central Vigilance Commission to launch help-line number

As part of empowering the public to fight against corruption, Central Vigilance Commission would soon introduce a four digit help-line number enabling them to lodge a compliant with the Commission instantly, a top official said here today.

The four digit mobile number "1964" would help the public to file a complaint with the Vigilance Commission then and there through their mobile phones, Central Vigilance Commission, Vigilance Commissioner R Sri Kumar said.

"Public need to send a message 'vigeye' to the number 1964 and they will be able to download the application.. With that application they will be able to file a complaint with us instantly and also with evidences.." Sri Kumar said at a function here.

Through this application, the public could lodge a complaint. "With the help of mobile phone they will be able to take a picture if somebody is taking a bribe," he said.

According to him the facility was launched on December nine, 2010 as a pilot study. "We have talked to BSNL and MTNL to provide the four digit number 1964 -- this number represents the year the Commission was incorporated. But after talking with the private telecom operators we will be launching it," he said.

He said they were ready with the software and after completing necessary formalities the facility would be launched soon.

Sri Kumar and top officials from Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai Port Trust were here to formally launch the Tamil Nadu chapter of Vigilance Study Circle.

After launching it, Sri Kumar said the aim of the Study circle was to have a networking with business enterprises and to give support each others.

According to him there were Vigilance Study Circles in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Vishagapatnam, Mumbai and Chennai.
