A student of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat has been arrested and remanded to seven days police custody today for his alleged involved in fraudulent withdrawal of money through netbanking from the accounts of four State Bank of India customers

The student, identified as Guna Sagar Talukdar, allegedly withdrew more than Rs one lakh from the account of three customers of SBI's, AAU branch and one customer of the bank's Jorhat main branch by stealing their ATM and PIN numbers, Jorhat Superintendent of Police Debojit Hazarika said

The CCTV footage shows Talukdar peeping from behind the customers at the keyboard of the ATM to identify their PIN and ATM card numbers and noting the same on his mobile.

"Later, he used these to recharge mobile phones, get DTH connections and buy other products through Netbanking. He operated from different cyber cafes and the computer in the university's library. This was a major clue for our investigating team," he said.

The police after receiving FIRs from the robbed customers started an investigation with the help of banks, BSNL, National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the CID.

Talukdar is a student of the third semester of BSc (Agriculture) and hails from Haribhanga village of Nalbari district.
