PTI | March 2, 2011

Country's largest software firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) today said it has bagged a contract for setting up and managing the State Data Centre (SDC) for Puducherry.

The deal size was, however, not available.

The SDC, which was earlier inaugurated by minister of state for communications and IT Sachin Pilot, is ready for commissioning.

"This data centre will prove to be a milestone in the IT enablement of the state. Puducherry e-Governance Society (PeGS) under the directorate of information technology is committed to the development of state and has completed several assignments," Government of Puducherry Secretary (IT) R P Pal said in a statement.

The SDC will enhance the infrastructure required to consolidate the state level applications like commercial taxes application, state service delivery gateway, e-district etc and will be interoperable with the existing infrastructure, it said.

Apart from Puducherry, TCS is implementing Data centres for various Central Government agencies as well as Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh SDCs under the National e-Governance Plan.
