Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Saturday signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh Police to implement a crime tracking system in the state.

The Crime and Criminal Tracking and Network System (CCTNS) is a 'Mission Mode Project' under the National e-governance plan of the union government and an outlay of Rs 2,000 crore has been made to implement it across the country.

The system is meant to improve connectivity and enhance crime fighting capabilities of the Police by facilitating collection, storage, retrieval, analysis, transfer and sharing of data by the police in the country.

AP Police has been sanctioned Rs 109.84 crore for implementing the CCTNS project by ministry of home affairs and an agreement was signed on Saturday by inspector general of police Ravi Gupta and Tanmay Chakrabarty, VP and global head of government industry solution unit from TCS to implement the project in the state.

TCS was the successful bidder after an open tender process.

The Pilot Phase of the project will go-live in 52 weeks in pilot districts and the final go-live in the state after 10 weeks of the Pilot. Subsequently, it would be extended to all the districts.

Andhra Pradesh director general of police V Dinesh Reddy is chairman of the state empowered committee which will oversee implementation of the project in AP.

Under CCTNS project, investigating officers will have technology and information to facilitate investigation of crime and detection of criminals through use of IT. It will also help in tracking progress of cases at ground level and in courts and help in speedy disposals, Gupta said.
