Teracom wins BSNL's first ever online-reverse auction

Online reverse auction purchase for 3G USB saw Teracom emerge as a winner.

Indigenous telecom equipment manufacturer Teracom on Wednesday said it has emerged as one of the successful winners in the first-ever online-reverse auction purchase for 3G USB (Universal Serial Bus) datacard by state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

This is first time BSNL conducted an online-reverse auction after opening the financial bid prices submitted by various prospective suppliers.

The tender was floated for procurement of 10 lakh 3G USB Datacards in three variants offering a speed of 3.6, 7.2 and 14.2 Mbps (megabyte per second), respectively.

This means at top speed of 14.2 mbps, a bollywood movie which is stored in two CDs, can be downloaded in 100 second approximately.

Teracom, HFCL and Chinese Telecom equipment maker Huawei submitted their bids for all three packages. Teracom secured a quantity of 4.25 lakhs out of 10 lakhs Datacards valued at Rs 51 crore approximately, the statement said.

By adopting this online-reverse auction, BSNL achieved a saving of Rs 41.75 crore from the base price levels, added the statement.

Teracom said it has already supplied over 3 lakhs 3G datacard to BSNL and MTNL in the past one year.

3G USB data card are small portable wireless device used for connecting laptop and PC's by plugging in to computer like a pen drive.
