TN announces award for depts using e-governance

The state government would give the award along with a trophy of Rs 30,000

As part of encouraging departments striving to streamline operations using e-governance, the Tamil Nadu government on Saturday announced the "Chief Minister's Award for Excellence in e-Governance for Government departments".

The award would come with a trophy of Rs 30,000, a State Government release here said.

Besides this award, the State Government also announced three other awards-- "Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering", "Outstanding performance in citizen centric service delivery through innovative use of technology"and also the "District Level e-Governance initiative".

For selecting the awards,the release said a committee, comprising experts in the field, including those from industry body National Association of Software and Service Companies and Indian Institute of Technology, would be set-up.

The panel's recommendations would be given to another committee chaired by the State Chief Secretary, it said.

Through this initiative, a revolution would be created in government departments subsequently satisfying the objective of providing a "people centric government", it said.
