Tripura police will set up a cyber forensic laboratory in the state by January next year to detect cyber crimes, Director General of Police (DGP) Salim Ali said here today.

Inaugurating a seminar 'Cyber crime and cyber forensic' organised by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), DGP said, the cyber laboratory would be set up by January next year and would be equipped with sophisticated gadgets.

Cyber crime was posing a major challenge to the police in the country and Tripura is no exception of it, he said adding a minister's e-mail account was hacked in October last.

The e-mail account of Tripura minister for Industries and Commerce, Jiten Chowdhury was hacked in the third week of October by a Nigerian.

Earlier, on November 14, DGP said that geo-satellite image system would be introduced in the state for spotting the movement of insurgents in the remote and hilly areas.

Ali said that modern systems should be introduced to detect the crimes.
