Tata Teleservices (TTL) on Tuesday entered the location based services business offering vehicle tracking, asset tracking and workforce management solutions for enterprise clients.

The service, based on a hybrid technology which uses both the satellite-based A-GPS (assisted global positioning system) and cell tower technology platform to track the movement of vehicles, is a USD 2.8 billion opportunity, TTL claimed in a release.

Using the service, a fleet manager can remotely get the real-time location of his vehicles and will also be very useful for the safety of employees doing graveyard shifts in BPOs, it said.

The services will include applications such as vehicle and fleet tracking, consignment and cargo tracking, fuel consumption monitoring, workforce tracking including employee security solutions and navigation assistance, TTL's President for Enterprise Business Sukanto Aich was quoted as saying.

TTL claimed it is the first company to use the A-GPS technology which will assist in tracking even inside buildings and other structures accurately.

A customer can log in to a web portal securely to track and generate relevant reports. Besides this, the company will also customise the offering to send the reports and alerts over SMS or mobile applications based on specific requirements, it said.
