Two persons, including a Nigerian national, were arrested for allegedly making online purchases to the tune of Rs two lakh using the bank account of an Andhra Pradesh resident, police said in the Capital on Wednesday.

They purchased several items from shopping portal Ebay through the account of 32-year-old Venkata Raghu Vara Prasad who lives on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Bharath Bhushan, hailing from Haryana, and Nigerian national Nebeolisa Olisaeloka were arrested on Sunday for the crime, ACP (West District) V Renganathan said.

USD 5,100 cash, an Internet data card, two laptops, a Rolex watch and two mobile phones were recovered from their possession, he said.
The action came on a complaint filed by the victim who received an SMS alert on May 13, 2011 that Rs 87,965 have been debited from his account.

"Immediately he called the bank officials and informed that he had neither initiated nor authorised any such transactions. On enquiry the customer service operator confirmed the debit and also informed him that another debit of Rs 94,600 had also occurred in his account," he said.

During the course of investigation, the Cyberabad Cyber Crime police after verifying the e-bay seller at Palika Bazar identified the address of the accused with the help of Tilak Nagar Police and raided the house of Bhushan.

"He led the police to the house of the Nigerian national, a student," police said. The accused were produced before a court on Wednesday.
