UID to get you mobile connection

Aadhaar sufficient as proof of identity and address

The telecom ministry has approved the unique identification number issued by the unique identity authority of India (UIDAI) as valid proof of identity and address for purpose of obtaining new mobile connection. The number thus becomes a single document for mobile subscriber verification.

The UID number will act as a valid proof after the details of identity and address are confirmed through the UID authentication procedure. The detailed procedure for Aadhaar authentication is yet to be issued by the UID authority. However till the time the same is issued the letter issued by UIDAI conveying name, address and Aadhaar number may be used as proof of identity and address

Telecom ministry will also be issuing detailed guidelines including the activation procedure in due course of time. After implementation of the Aadhar authentication procedure it can be used as identity / address proof in Jammu & Kashmir and northeast states as well.
