UID project to be launched in Puducherry

To be launched in partnership will civil supplies department

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will launch its 'Aadhaar' enrolment project in the Union territory.

The process was being done in partnership with the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of the territorial government, UIDAI deputy director general Ashok Dalwai told reporters here today.

According to a proposal, the Union Territory's entire population of 11.52 lakhs would be covered in three phases with the first stage slated from January 24 to February 5.

Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, V Narayanasamy will roll the out the project here, he said.

The rolling out of the project here "will herald a new chapter in the efforts of the Union Territory of Puducherry in enabling inclusive growth and bringing in greater efficiency and transparency in governance," Dalwai said.

The project had already been launched in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura and Delhi.
