Vietnam Prez Sang visits Infosys campus

Sang's four-day India visit is aimed at deepening strategic and defence ties with New Delhi, say officials

Starting his maiden visit to India from here, Vietnam President Truong Tan Sang today visited the headquarters of Infosys Ltd, the country's IT showpiece.

Sang evinced keen interest in the operations of the Bangalore-based, NASDAQ-listed firm located at the Electronic City on the outskirts of this technlogy hub where he planted a sapling, in the presence of Executive Co-Chairman of the company S Gopalakrishnan.

Earlier, Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj hosted a lunch in his honour at the Raj Bhavan.

Officials said Sang's four-day India visit is aimed at deepening strategic and defence ties with New Delhi.

Ahead of the visit, Sang said in Vietnam?s capital of Hanoi: This visit takes place in the context that the time-honoured traditional friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and India are witnessing strong growth in all areas for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development.

We note with satisfaction the fine developments of the strategic partnership between the two countries in all areas, including security defence, he had said.

Bilateral trade between the two countries reached more than USD 2.7 billion in 2010 and nearly USD 1.8 billion in the first six months of the calendar year 2011. The two sides have agreed to increase it to USD seven billion by 2015, officials said.

Sang left for New Delhi this afternoon from HAL airport.
