Yatra to go for more acquisitions

Aims Rs 7,000 cr revenue

PTI | August 31, 2012

Online travel company Yatra.com will make more acquisitions by 2014 as part of plans to double revenues to Rs 7,000 crore in the next five years, a senior company official said.

The company that has made four acquisitions in the last 18 months is considering buyouts in either holiday business segment, destination management or of large travel agents.

"We would be making a couple of acquisitions in the next two years...We are aiming to double our revenues from the present Rs 3,500 crore to Rs 7,000 crore in next five years," Yatra.com head of Marketing and Strategic Alliance Pratik Mazumder told PTI.

Asked about the areas that the firm will look for acquisitions, he said: "It could be holidays business, which could be online or offline. It could also be a destination management company or large sized travel agents, who have a lot of retail business".

It could either be domestic or international acquisitions, he added.

Yatra.com has completed four major acquisitions in the past two years. In June this year, it had announced acquisition of Travelguru while in January, it had bought Buzzintown.

In June, 2011, it had acquired MagicRooms while it took control of TSI in October, 2010.

The acquisition of Travelguru had given Yatra access to a network of more than 6,500 hotels in India and 72,000 hotels worldwide.

Elaborating on the company's future strategy, he said Yatra.com would focus more on the holiday business.

"Currently, 70 per cent of our revenue is from air travel and 30 per cent from the holidays segment. In the next two years both the segments will contribute 50 per cent each," he said.

Stating that margins are dwindling in flights and could reduce further, he said the focus area for future is holidays - both domestic and international.

Mazumder said within the next two years, Travelguru's hotel network is expected to reach 10,000.
