14 IT officials under custody on corruption charges

The government today said 14 senior officials of the Income Tax Department are under the custody of CBI and other agencies for corruption charges.

Out of 14 group 'A' I-T officers, 13 are under the custody of CBI, while one is under the custody of the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

He added that in the last two years, sanction of prosecution to various agencies against 23 group 'A' I-T officers was given, while the corresponding figures for similar rank officials in Customs and Central Excise Department was 31.

All cases of corruption for which sanction for prosecution is sought by CBI/ACB are processed expeditiously and sanctions of the competent authority are conveyed to the prosecuting agency, he said.
