Government is in the process of consolidating and amending a law which seeks to prohibit 'benami' transactions, law minister M Veerappa Moily informed the Lok Sabha today.

"The government is in the process of consolidating and amending the benami transaction (Prohibition) act, 1988," Moily told the House in a written reply to a question.

To a question whether the central vigilance commission has recommended a stringent law for the seizure of benami properties, the minister replied in the negative.

"This ministry has not received any recommendation of the central vigilance commission on benami transactions," he said.
