Major central trade unions including CITU, AITUC, INTUC and HMS organised a rally in the national capital to protest against the flawed policies of the central governmnet that have crippled the rights of the masses.

Voicing the workers' and other downtrodden groups' angst, over five lakh people assembled at Jantar Mantar on February 23 to participate in a planned march to Parliament.

The rally saw men and women from all sections of workers – unorganised sector, organised sector which included both private and public section, central and state government employees and employees from bank, insurance, telecom and defence production sectors. The largest section of participants, however, was from the unorganised sector – construction, bricklaying, hamalis, autorikshaw drivers, beedi workers, handloom and powerloom workers and other groups.

The anger among the people in the rural and urban parts of the country was reflected by this great mobilization demanding justice to the working people.

Governance Now photojournalist Ravi Choudhary brings us glimpses of the workers' struggle through his lens.
