Delhi joined the slutwalk movement. This is a sign of changing times. Everybody is out reclaim insults in the so-called empowering way. But I think it only does more damage and reinforces sereotypes about the oppressed. I noticed this phenomenon when my brother who stays in US told me how black Americans often call each other “niggas” which is a derogatory term. The normalisation of the term is often confusing for the other communities. Similarly, young women calling each other sluts, whether in jest or as part of radical empowerment, seems like a very reactionary approach towards engaging with the problem of sexual harassment.
