On fifth day of her fast-unto-death protest, activist Medha Patkar said she wanted the top officials of Maharashtra government to visit slum areas and see agony of slum dwellers there.

Medha, who is on indefinite hunger strike since last Friday, has alleged irregularities in slum rehabilitation scheme of Golibar area of Khar (East).

"We want the top most authorities of the state government to visit the Ganesh Krupa Society, a part of the Golibar slum area and see the agony of these slum dwellers," Medha said.

Earlier in the day, the office of the Deputy Collector sent a team of doctors and representative requesting Patkar to call off her fast, but she refused to oblige.

Social activists Anna Hazare and Swami Agnivesh on Tuesday expressed their solidarity with Patkar, who has launched a stir against demolition of slums at Golibar locality in the city.

"Hazare has said that he is in touch with Prithviraj Chavan and Medha, and is trying to resolve the issue. He added that he is concerned about the health of Medha and would like this situation to end soon," activist Vivek Pandit said.

Patkar has been demanding that the state government scrap the controversial 3K clause of the Maharashtra Slum Areas Act, 1971, investigate all the projects sanctioned under this section and implement the Rajiv Awas Yojana.
