Orissa tribal take out rally

Fake certificate scam angers the tribal as others benefit from reservations for them

PTI | January 28, 2011

Tribals from across Orissa's Balangir district carrying their traditional weapons took out a rally here today demanding among others action against people in government jobs with the help of fake scheduled tribe certificates.

The tribals, agitating under the banner of 'Adivasi Kalyan Sangha', accused both the state government and the centre of being apathetic towards them

The protesters presented a 25-point charter of demands to the state government through the district administration which include action against fake adivasis who have occupied government posts.

The Sangha claimed that they have submitted a list of 353 persons of Bolangir district who have got government jobs with fake adivasi certificates.

However, so far only 48 persons have been identified by the state who have been in government job with fake certificate and only six persons have been dismissed from the service, claimed Niranjan Bisi, secretary district Adivasi Kalyan Sangha.
