OU evaluations in limbo as Telangana invigilators join stir

BEd spot valuation has been stalled after having been postponed since last Saturday

The process of BEd evaluation at the Osmania University (OU) was again stalled today after Telangana invigilators boycotted the 'Spot Valuation', even as the varsity authorities said a Committee was constituted to look into the demands of the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC).

The BEd evaluation process had been postponed since Saturday last in view of the tense situation after activists of the TSJAC allegedly attacked teachers hailing from Andhra-Rayalaseema regions, while they were evaluating BEd examination papers at the Osmania University.

The activists had demanded that all non-Telangana teachers should be sent back and not allowed to evaluate the answer-sheets of Telangana candidates.

As the BEd evaluation commenced at the OU campus today again, activists of TSJAC took out a protest rally and staged a demonstration before OU's administration building. Telangana teachers who were undertaking the evaluation, too boycotted the process and joined the protest in support of the activists.

Osmania University Vice-Chancellor T Tirupati Rao assured the protesters that their demands will be looked into.

Later, speaking to reporters, Rao said the University was conducting the 'Spot Valuation' process as per rules and regulations.

Rao said a three-member Committee has been constituted to look into the allegations of Telangana Students JAC that "non-Telangana teachers will act against the interests of Telangana students".

"The Committee would submit its report in two days after randomly examining the answer-sheets of the BEd answer scripts (evaluated so far) and a decision on continuing with Andhra-Rayalaseema lecturers for evaluation will be taken based on the report," the Vice-Chancellor said.

The Spot Valuation process is likely to begin in couple of days, he said and appealed students not to take law in their hands.

A committee had also been constituted to inquire into the attack incident and a report has already been submitted to Governor E S L Narasimhan, Rao said.

A meeting of the Supreme Court appointed committee on deployment of security forces at the OU campus will be convened shortly, he added.
