More than 800 striking non-teaching employees under Patna University and Lalit Narayan Mithila University of Darbhanga have been suspended, for allegedly violating the ultimatum by the state Human Resources Department to resume their duties.

As the teaching and admission works of the colleges under nine universities continued to suffer for the past over one-and-a-half months because of indefinite strike by non-teaching employees in Bihar, the state government had yesterday issued an ultimatum asking the employees to report back for duties or face action, official sources said.

"In compliance with the order of HRD, we have suspended 205 grade III and grade IV employees of different colleges and university," Patna University Registrar Manoj Kumar told PTI.

He said efforts were on to ensure normal activities on the campus of the university.

Lalit Narayan Mithila University Registrar Vimal Kumar also confirmed that the authorities suspended 602 non-teaching employees of 17 colleges and at university.

Other universities too would soon be taking steps to punish the non-teaching employees, sources said.
