Are Uttarakhand CM's days numbered?
Party-internal report talks of corruption, Nishank rushes to Advani
GN Bureau | New Delhi | September 03 2010
Uttarakhand chief minister Ram Pokhriyal Nishank could be on his way out 14 months after he took over from lt gen. (retd) B C Khanduri in June last year.
A two-member team of Thawar Chand Gehlot and Sodan Singh, constituted by BJP president Nitin Gadkari to examine working of the state government, is understood to have pointed out that corruption has been on the rise since Nishank took over.
However, instead of bringing back Khanduri, who had set an example of a clean and corruption-free government, the BJP leadership contemplates making Bhagat Singh Koshiyari the chief minister and Khanduri the state party president.
Koshiyari, who is also a former chief minister, is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha. He and Khanduri are staunch rivals and hence the leadership believes key positions to both may put an end to rivalry and help the party.
Concerned about his fate being sealed, Nishank came calling upon BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani to explain how he is trying to tighten the government machinery to put an end to complaints of corruption.
