Within three months of the BJP government of Manohar Parrikar returning to power, Goa is turning into a Hindutva bastion to launch a movement for declaring India as a "Hindu Rashtra."

The right-wing Hindu organisations are holding a 5-day conference at Ramnathi, headquarters of the Sanatan Sanstha in Ponda, 20 km from Margao, from June 10 to 14 to draw up a timetable for the formation of the Hindu nation and protection of Hindutva and the Hindu organisations.

Sanatan Sanstha, which also publishes a Marathi daily to propagate its views, had hit headlines in October 2009 for its links with the Malegaon blast accused sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur after the death of two persons in a scooter bomb blast at Margao on the eve of Diwali.

The conference at Ramnathi is being organised by its sister organisation, Hindu Janjagruti Samiti of Thane, citing urgency to fight back attacks on the Hindu religion in the form of conversions, cow slaughter, inter-religion marriages and political pressure on the Hindutva organisations.

Organisers said the conference will also draw up a programme for religious education to the Hindus up to village level to fight for their rights. "India was divided on religious grounds by which Pakistan became an Islamic nation, but India was declared a secular country despite the fact that 'Hindustan,' as it was known, was a Hindu nation for centuries. How can India be secular despite the Hindus constituting 85 per cent of its population," organiser Suresh Munjal, a Delhi-based lawyer, asked.

"When there are 153 Christian nations, 52 Islamic nations and 12 Buddhist nations and even handful Jews having own nation, why not 100 crore Hindus in India demand to have own separate nation," he asked while announcing an interaction with the media by RSS leader K Govindacharya and others in Delhi on Thursday for the conference.

He said the conference will pass resolutions in issues like terrorism, defence of Hindu religion and protection to the Hindus.
