Kendrapara (Odisha): In a bizarre turn of event, a woman in Kendrapara district posed herself as the daughter of the man whom she had legally married. The reason was to stave off delay in the submission of caste certificate for the ensuing panchayat polls in Odisha.

The accused Kamala Behera is contesting as ward member candidate from Palli Raghunathpur village for the Nahanga gram panchayat body under Derabish tehsil. The said panchayat ward is reserved for the Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) women candidates.

The woman did not possess the caste certificate, which was mandatory. She was left with little time to get the certificate from his parental village at Nikirai that falls under Kendrapara tehsil.

As time was running out for filing of nomination, she applied at local Derabish tehsil for the certificate. To get it on time, she went a step further by showing her spouse Dola Gobinda Behera as her father.

She allegedly cited her legally married husband as her father in the caste certificate that she submitted.
