Chhattishgarh floods: Rs 138 cr sanctioned for relief

Rs one cr earmarked for Bastar region

With a view to deal with floods and heavy torrential rains in Chhattisgarh, the state government has sanctioned Rs 138 crore, official sources said today.

Around Rs 138 crore have been sanctioned to all the district in the state out of which Rs 24 crore 63 lakh has been allocated under the provisions of the Revenue Circular Book, they said.

For relief operations in flood-affected Bastar district, Rs one crore has been sanctioned separately while Sarguja district collector has received an amount of Rs three lakh from the Disaster Relief Fund for the victims of hail and storm, they said.

Flash floods caused by heavy torrential rains in Naxal-hit Bastar district of the state had hit over 9,000 people in the region, rendering scores of them homeless.

About 91 marooned persons were airlifted and rescued by helicopters and motorboats in Nadibodna following continuous downpour for almost a week.

Indravati and other adjoining rivers in the district were flowing close to their danger levels while several other tributaries were swelling up fast due to continuous showers.
