CIC to Delhi: Put all Games related info online

Information commissioner Shailesh Gandhi has asked the chief secretary and the NDMC to do proactive disclosures on Games projects

GN Bureau | August 14, 2010

The Central Information Commission has asked the Delhi government to put all the information regarding the Commonwealth Games in public domain by September 15. This includes details of tenders and consultants appointed for building stadia. The NDMC has been asked to comply with the orders by August 30.

In his letter to the Chief Secretary, Shailesh Gandhi, information commissioner at the CIC noted that disclosures under Section 4 of the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005 regarding the Games related work have not been made.

“We at the Commission have always stressed that under Section 4 of the RTI Act, more and more meaningful and substantive information should be made available in the public domain. This may act as deterrence for the corrupt people to put an end to their indulgence and improve accountability and transparency in the system,” read the letter.

Gandhi pointed out that agencies like PWD, rural development, urban development, Delhi Jal Board, DSIDC and MCD had not made certain disclosures that they should have.

The CIC has directed the NDMC to put online the details of consultants appointed for implementation of Commonwealth Games Projects and other development work in Delhi in the last 5 years.
