Gujarat Congress today demanded that the state government should come out with a white paper on donations received during various festivals and fairs organised by it.

"Money is collected in the name of fairs and festivals like Garib Kalyan Mela, Sharadotsav, Krushi Mahotsav, kite festival and Navratri festival," Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil alleged.

"This money is spent arbitrarily, without following any transparent and rational procedure like tendering," he said.

"The government should come out with a white paper on the issue."

The ruling BJP termed the allegations as baseless.

"Lakhs of people in the state have participated in the fairs and festivals organised by the state government. This has increased the insecurity felt by Congress. That is the reason the party, which is involved in lot of corruption cases at Centre, is trying to defame the clean image of the Gujarat chief minister," said Government spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas.

Gohil stated that Gujarat (Service) Conduct Rules 12 and 13 explicitly says that no funds or gift can be collected by the government servant in any form, directly or indirectly.

"Despite this, RTI has revealed that government collects funds at such fairs and festivals," he alleged.
