Cong 'insensitive' to developmental issues in Punjab: Badal

Calls central policies "inimical" to the interest of Punjab

PTI | October 10, 2011

Ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections in Punjab, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday appealed to the people to compare performances of the SAD-BJP regime with the previous Congress government before casting their vote.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of the Guru Ravidass Ayurved University complex in Hoshiarpur, Badal said what SAD-BJP government had done on development front in a short span of four-and-a-half years could not be even dreamt of by the state Congress leadership.

He said, our government had made spectacular achievement in every sphere be it power generation, education, healthcare, or infrastructure, whereas the Congress government was "completely insensitive" to developmental issues.

Lashing out at the Congress for its alleged apathetic and discriminatory attitude towards Punjabis, Badal said it had always "betrayed" the state on every front.

He alleged that central policies were inimical to the interests of Punjab as they deliberately devised stringent parameters for the eligibility of the centrally-sponsored schemes and grants to keep out the state from its ambit.

Badal said the Punjab government had recently taken path breaking decisions to significantly improve its two core sectors -- healthcare and education.

In his address, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said the upcoming Guru Ravidass Ayurved University would go a long way in giving boost to the alternate system on medicine.

He emphasised the need to encourage extensive research in the alternate medicine system like Ayurved, Homeopathy, Sidha, Yoga and Unani.
