Congress seeks CBI probe in illegal mining in MP

PTI | April 13, 2012

The Opposition Congress on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the alleged illegal mining in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh.

The demand was made by Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh while releasing a book based on the issues raised by the Congress during the debate on the no-confidence motion tabled in the House in the last winter session.

The book, 'Madhya Pradesh Ki Janata Ka Avishwas, Darakti Sarkar' was released by Ajay in the presence of senior MLAs Arif Aqeel, Kalpana Parulekar, N P Prajapati and State Congress Media Committee Chairman Manak Agrawal.

"Though Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan rejected all allegations (on mining) levelled against his Government during the debate, it resulted in boosting of morale of mining mafia because of which a young IPS officer, Narendra Kuamr Singh, and a few other lower rank officials had to lose their lives," Ajay said.

He said if Chouhan is really serious about the matter, he should recommend enlarging the ambit of CBI probe, currently limited to the murder of the IPS officer, to cover the entire illegal mining affair in the state.

Senior Congress leaders will tour the entire state and highlight, with the help of the book, issues related to illegal mining, corruption and law and order, among the people, he said.

Referring to claims made by State BJP President Prabhat Jha about alleged encroachment made by his family members at Sada village in Churhat tehsil of Sidhi district, Ajay said it was a conspiracy to defame him.

Jha had filed a complaint with Madhya Pradesh ST Commission alleging the family members of Ajay have encroached upon land belonging to tribals and demanded a probe.
