The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, which is mired in allegations of financial and managerial irregularities, will wind up by this month end when its extended tenure draws to a close.

The Organising Committee was first scheduled to be wound up by March 2011, but authorities decided to extend the tenure till June 30 last year as it was assisting in the multi-agency probe into allegations of irregularieties and finishing other pending works related to payments and dispute resolutions.

The OC was given two extensions after that till December last and March 2012 followed by another extension till June.

Official sources said the OC, which had conducted the mega sporting event between October 3-12, 2010, has started relieving its staff and handing over logistics to the Sports Ministry.

The swanky nine-storey OC headquarters at 1, Jai Singh Road is being given to other departments. Some attached offices under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Prime Minister's Office among others have already occupied some floors of the building.

An official said the OC has digitised its records and is ready to hand-over its charge to Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

The officials working in the Games organising body are also being relieved in a phased manner.

"There are about 50 staff working which would also be relieved soon," the official added.

"The OC is likely to complete its work by this month end. A final and formal decision will be taken during a meeting of its Executive Board which is soon to be scheduled," he said.

Sources said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also likely to get space in the OC headquarters once it is completely vacated. At present, the NIA functions from District Centre, Jasola area in the national capital.

"Investigating agencies including the CBI, Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax department and the Central Vigilance Commission among others are looking into some cases of corruption related to CWG projects. The OC was assisting in the multi-agency probe and finishing other pending works related to payments and dispute resolutions," the official said. .
