With rubble and construction wastes clogging drains in many areas, chief minister Sheila Dikshit today directed civic agencies to take urgent steps to remove them so that there is no water-logging during monsoon.

Chairing a meeting to take stock of preparations for the monsoon, Dikshit told MCD, NDMC and district administrations to ensure proper coordination for removing the debris and construction wastes.

Citing instances of water-logging in many areas following the monsoon showers this week, Dikshit told the agencies to take immediate action so that the drainage system functions properly.

"All the concerned agencies have been told to remove debris at the earliest," said an official, who attended the meeting.

The city witnessed widespread water-logging during the monsoon last year which had badly affected the traffic flow in many areas in the city.
