GN Bureau | October 4, 2013

The Election Commission (EC) on Friday announced that assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Delhi will take place between November 11 and December 4, 2013 and the poll results for all five states will be announced on December 8.

While Chhattisgarh will see polling in two-phases, voting in the remaining four states will be a one-day affair, chief election commissioner V S Sampath announced.

First phase polling in Chhattisgarh will be on November 11 and the second phase will be on November 19. The polls will be held in MP on November 25, in Delhi and Mizoram on December 4 and Rajasthan on December 1.

EC said that the model code of conduct will come into force immediately.

The assembly elections in these five states marks the introduction of ‘None Of The Above’ (NOTA) option on the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and ballot papers thus, giving the voters the right to reject all candidates.

The total electorate going to polls will be 11 crore with 630 assembly constituencies in the fray. The CEC said all measures for free and fair polls have been taken by the EC.
