First public hearing on draft BMC ward structure held

Ahead of elections, 492 objections and suggestions received, meeting continues

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commenced its public hearing process on objections and suggestions regarding the draft ward structure for the General Election 2025. A total of 189 out of 492 objections and suggestions received were heard on Wednesday

The hearing was chaired by Iqbal Singh Chahal, authorized officer of the Maharashtra government and Additional Chief Secretary (Home), at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in the presence of Bhushan Gagrani, Commissioner and Administrator, BMC, Ashwini Joshi, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City), Vijay Balamwar, Special Duty Officer (Elections) and other senior and concerned officials.

As part of the procedural roadmap for the upcoming municipal elections, the draft geographical boundaries of BMC wards were published on August 22, following which citizens were invited to submit objections and suggestions between August 22 and September 4.

“During this period, the administration received a total of 492 submissions. During the first hearing on Wednesday 189 of those entries,  were addressed in the scrutiny and feedback process.The hearing process will continue over the next two days ie; September 11 and 12, 2025  at the same venue. Citizens who have submitted objections or suggestions and received notification letters are encouraged to attend in person on the scheduled date,” BMC said in a statement.
