Steel minister Virbhadra Singh has set an aggressive and ambitious target for the industry – 120 MT of steel by 2012. This will not only mean more than doubling our existing capacity but also make India the second largest steel producer in the world after China. What will it take to achieve this rapid growth? And how can this growth story be made sustainable and participatory in nature in which every stakeholder - the people who part with their land for mining, the industry bringing in capital and technology and finally, the consumer - gets a fair deal?

Governance Now is organising a conference 'Steel & Sustainable Development' on 29th October, 2010 at the Park Hotel, New Delhi in association with the union Ministry of Steel. Shri Virbhadra Singh, honourable Minister of Steel will be the chief guest and will deliver the opening address.

The speakers at the conference will be top level bureaucrats (Secretaries/Joint Secretaries), Chief Executives of prominent steel PSUs and private sector companies, policy makers from steel & allied sectors, experts and consultants from the steel & mining sector, senior business journalists, etc.
