Haryana to constitute task force to promote gender equity

Task force to ensure strict implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994

Alarmed at the adverse child sex ratio in the state, the Haryana government has decided to set up a task force in each district to promote gender equity.

The task force, to be headed by the deputy commissioner of the respective districts, will ensure strict implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994, an official spokesman said in Chandigarh on Friday.

Besides, it will chalk out strategies for involving public in curbing the malpractice of female foeticide, he said.

The task force would meet at least once in a month and review the implementation of the PC and PNDT Act and progress of prosecutions launched against errant diagnostic centres or doctors, the spokesman said.

The zila parishad chairman would be its co-chairperson and SP, ADC, district-level programme officer of women and child development department, SDM, two college principals, zila parishad representative and two representatives of civil society would be the members. The civil surgeon of the district would be its member secretary.
