Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today kocked out the arguments of opposition members from Jammu that their region got less fund allocation, saying it got twice the Plan size of Srinagar this fiscal.

In a written reply to a question of independent MLA from Bishnah, Ashwini Sharma, the Chief Minister, who also holds the planning portfolio, said while Rs 45.47 crore were allocated for Srinagar, the Jammu district has been allocated Rs 92.65 crore for the current financial year.

The funds allocated for Srinagar district has been the least among the 22 districts of the state while North Kashmir Baramulla district has got the highest Rs 98.51 crore.

Interestingly, the cumulative fund allocation for the 10 districts of Kashmir and the same number of districts in Jammu province is almost identitical with the latter getting Rs 16 crores more than the Rs 736 crore for the Valley.

The newly-created Samba district in Jammu region has been allocated Rs 55.15 crore for the current fiscal while Rajouri district has got the highest Rs 98.30 crore.

In terms of enhancement of the district plan over the last year's allocation, Shopian district of South Kashmir has got 7.8 per cent hike followed by Srinagar at eight per cent.

Rajouri district in Jammu region has got the highest increase of 33 per cent in its plan size this year, compared to last year, while Jammu district got 27 per cent hike.
