The civil aviation ministry has granted no-objection certificate (NOC) to Jet Lite and Spice Jet to import Boeing aircraft for induction in their fleet for scheduled passenger flights.

The two airlines have shown an increasing response to their air services. While Jet Lite sought approval for induction of two Boeing B737-800 aircraft in its fleet in November, Spice Jet secured permission to import four of them for addition in its fleet.

Meanwhile, the Empowered Committee also cleared import of three aircraft and a helicopter for private use, and five aircraft and one helicopter for non-scheduled air transport services.

Those permitted imports for private use are: Capt Karan R Kanal and Mrs Shailaja V Patil, Mumbai (Cessna 172 aircraft), ABG Resources, Mumbai (Bell 429 helicopter), D S Constructions, New Delhi (Embraer 135 BJ aircraft), and Indrani Patnaik, Raurkela (Beechcraft B200 GT).

InterGlobe Aviation of Gurgaon has also been allowed import of next 14 A-320 aircraft in the calendar year 2011-12 for scheduled air transport (passenger) services, according to a civil aviation ministry notification.
