Jharkhand to frame stringent anti-corruption law

Bill likely to be introduced in the next assembly session

While a nationwide debate is going on to table an effective anti-graft Lokpal bill in parliament, Jharkhand government is set to introduce such a bill in the next assembly session to weed out corruption.

The state's chief minister, Arjun Munda, on Wednesday told reporters that the stringent law, apart from providing efficient anti-corruption measures, would put the chief minister under its ambit.

"We are considering to bring a law to eradicate corruption and a bill will be tabled in this regard in the next session of assembly," Munda said at a press conference here.

He said the law would provide for seizure of property of the accused and loss of jobs for government employees who are found involved in graft.

"We have initiated steps in this connection and are discussing the legal aspect as well as the quantum of punishment to be incorporated in the proposed law," he said.
