Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu on Monday sought the intervention of senior party leader from Kerala and defence minister A K Antony in cooling down the tempers in his home state on the Mullaperiyar Dam issue over which the two states have been at loggerheads.

A delegation of Congress MPs met Antony, a three-time former chief minister of Kerala, and asked him to play a major role in solving the issue amicably so that there is no problem between the two neighbouring states.

"We sought Antony's intervention on the Mullaperiyar issue. He is a very senior leader from Kerala. We asked him to cool down the tempers in Kerala so that the issue can be resolved amicably between the two states," Virudhunagar MP Manicka Tagore said.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala have been at loggerheads for some weeks now over the Mullaperiyar issue and sporadic protests have been taken place in border areas in both states.

Yesterday, Tamil Nadu finance minister O Pannerselvam was gheroaed by protesters in Theni after he asked them to withdraw their agitation.

The Congress MPs told Antony that the Kerala government should wait for the supreme court order in this regard before taking any step.

"Antony also agreed with our views. He said both states should have to wait for the supreme court order. He told us that the issue has to be settled amicably so that there are no problems between the two states," Tagore said.

In a separate interaction, director Sohan Roy, whose film 'Dam 999' was banned in Tamil Nadu for purportedly depicting collapse of Mullaperiyar dam over which the state is locked in a dispute with Kerala, today met home secretary Rameshram Mishra to present his views on the movie.

As per a supreme court directive, Roy met Misra at the state secretariat Fort St George here and held discussions for an hour and presented his views against the ban on his film.

Tamil Nadu government has banned the film after protests by various political parties which claimed it was based on Mullaperiyar dam issue over which the state and Kerala are locked in a row.

On December 10, Roy wrote to the home secretary saying he was prepared to appear before him today with his legal advisor Sajeev and movie distributor for Tamil Nadu T Prabhakaran, for which he sought police protection.

Roy had moved the supreme court, which had directed that a personal hearing on the issue be held today at the office of principal home secretary to hear his views.
