Even as the metropolis received over 100 per cent rainfall and four lakes are overflowing, the water cut imposed last year is not going to be lifted immediately, the local civic body said today.

According to Indian Meteorological Department, the financial capital has received 112 per cent rainfall since June this year.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said, Vihar, one of the lakes supplying potable water to the metropolis, started overflowing from this morning.

"The catchment areas of water-supplying lakes - Modak Sagar, Tansa, Vihar, Tulsi, Upper Vaitarana, Bhatasa - are observing good rainfall from the last few days. Water levels of these lakes have increased but to be on a safer side water cuts will not be lifted immediately," a BMC official said.

In the backdrop of poor monsoon last year, BMC imposed water cuts since June 2009. Currently, residential and commercial users are facing 10 and 30 per cent water cut respectively.

Meanwhile, rains lashed several parts of the city and suburbs today. Colaba met office (in city) recorded 26.5 mm, while Santacruz (in suburbs) recorded 28.2 mm rainfall from 8.30 am yesterday to 8.30 am today.
