Nitish seeks fixation of electricity tariff

The Bihar CM asked regulatory authorities to keep in mind the larger interest of consumers

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday urged regulators to keep in mind the larger interest of the general public before fixing electricity tariff rate.

The electricity regulators should keep issues like transmission, distribution losses and purchasing capacity of the consumers in mind before framing the tariff rate, he told the 28th meeting of forum of regulators attended by chairpersons of state electricity boards and state regularity commissions, besides central electricity regulatory commission.

He also urged the regulators to widely publicise through advertisements its decision on electricity tariff rate for the awareness and knowledge of the masses.

The people would then understand that the decision has been taken by regulators and not by Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB), Kumar said.

Consumers have been venting their anger at BSEB and the state government for hike in electricity tariff.s for modernisation of rail network which include automation of signalling system, strengthening of track and procurement of modern rolling stock.
