Bihar government would not allow illegal mining activities in the state and none involving in it would get 'political patronage', Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said in the assembly on Thursday.

Announcing this, Kumar urged Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary to allow debate on the raging issue in the assembly.

Chaudhary, who had rejected RJD MLA Samrat Chaudhary's adjournment motion on illegal mining activities on the ground that it was not proper under the rules of procedure of the house, later said the issue would be discussed for two hours at a later date under Rule 43 of the rulers of procedure.

Leader of Opposition Abdul Bari Siddique earlier asked the Speaker to allow debate on the issue under adjournment motion saying it was a matter of public interest as Rohtas SP was attacked by mining mafias and another IPS officer was killed by them in Madhya Pradesh recently.

Welcoming the opposition members' desire to discuss the illegal mining activities in Bihar, the chief minister said "The state government needs cooperation of everybody to confront the mining mafias and protect natural resources."

At the instruction of the state government, local officials have put their life on risk to carry out raids against such elements, Kumar said.

The Rohtas police had carried out raids against illegal miners and booked several persons, including former BJP state unit president Gopal Narayan Sinha and seized hundreds of vehicles lifting minerals dug out illegally from the hillocks and forests.
