NTPC only govt firm on list of great workplaces

Power co places 6th on a list of ten-best, private companies occupy the remaining slots

GN Bureau | June 24, 2013

State-owned National Thermal Power Corporation became the only public sector undertaking to figure in the list of top ten workplaces in the country.
According to the 2013 study of around 535 organisations operating in the country carried out by The Great Place to Work Institute, the list was dominated by MNCs and domestic private companies.

The results of the study, which  took into account HR policies of the participating organisations and surveyed around one lakh employees, revealed that Google was the best place to work followed by Intel Technology. NTPC, the country’s largest power producer, was ranked sixth, becoming the only PSU to make it to the list of top 10 companies. The company, which employs around 26,000 people, has been amongst the top performers for the last nine years.

“NTPC has been ranked first amongst PSUs, first amongst large organizations (over 10,000 employees) and first in the energy and oil and gas sector amongst India’s best companies to work for (2013) by The Great Place to Work Institute,” a statement issued by NTPC said. “The rapid and dynamic changes in the environment make it necessary for the company to revisit its HR policies from time to time to bring in new ideas,” the statement further said.
